Counterfeit Filters

According to Filter It Out, counterfeit water filters have flooded the market in recent years. These filters go beyond illegal use of brand names and logos, but also make false claims about filter performance and what is actually filtered out of water.

Counterfeit water filters can do the following:

  • Fail to filter harmful contaminants from your water
  • Add harmful contaminants to your water
  • Leak and damage refrigerator

NSF Certifications

The National Sanitation Foundation regulates refrigerator water filters and rigorously tests every part of a filter before it can earn a NSF Certification, making it a widely known and respected sanitation regulatory body.

But even within these strict regulations, some certifications are better than others. For example, a filter with a NSF 42 Certification only removes the taste and smell of chlorine in your water while other contaminants may still get through.

That's why it's important to make sure your refrigerator water filter is held to the highest standards. All Filter-Monster water filters are certified by IAPMO Research and Testing to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 for the specific performance claims verified and substantiated by test data. See entire list of contaminants below.
